Trick studio is owned by the band of Herbert Grönemeyer, Germany's most famous singer. Stephan Ullmann recorded and produced the track almost blue «sky» with music in his hands and added the 70s and 80s sound effects.
Drums and bass were recorded together on an analogue tape machine on 5 December 2005 to recreate the warmth of the 70s. The guitars were added on 6 December, all voices on 9 December 2005.

almost blue «black» was recorded in a live chamber music setting on 16 January 2006. In a relaxed 90 minutes 5 takes were recorded. Recording engineer Günter Appenheimer proclaimed take 4 to be "the most together one" ("die zusammenste") and met with unanimous agreement.
The a cappella version of almost blue «yes» was recorded on 20 January 2006. The vocal group sang the body of the song live in the studio (but not quite in a single take).
